Thanksgiving Cross-Country Classic

Thursday, November 28, 2013  /  5k


Work up an unforgettable Thanksgiving appetite with a European-style 5K around Reid Park.  Separate men’s and women’s events create a fun opportunity to cheer on friends and family as they hurdle hay bales and water jumps.  A team division is available.  Great prizes include “turkeys” and pumpkin pies!

The 5K races are part of the The Running Shop Grand Prix, produced by SAR.

  • 9:30am - Co-Ed 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk

Race Distances and Courses

5K Run and 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk

  • This is a European-style course on grass and dirt complete with hay bales and water jumps. This is a multi-loop for great spectator viewing.
  • The 5K has separate races for men and women.
  • The 1.5 mile fun run is co-ed.
  • The 5K races are part of the The Running Grand Prix, produced by SAR.

Note - Fun Run/Walk Participants will receive a race tee, but the Fun Run is no longer timed.


  • Print Registration Form and mail it in. Registration by mail must be postmarked by Wednesday, November 20, 2013.
  • Register online with a credit card at
  • In-Person Registration and Packet Pick-up
    • At The Running Shop (3055 N. Campbell) on November 23 (Saturday) from 10:00am-5:00pm and on November 25-27 (Monday-Wednesday) from 10:00am-6:00pm
  • Race Day Registration and Packet Pickup
    • Starts at 7:00am
    • Please arrive early enough to register on-time.

Team Division (optional)

  • Teams of up to 7 men or women may enter.  The top 4 times of each team will be totaled for the best team times.  No co-ed teams are allowed.  The top men’s and women’s team will win awards.
  • Teams and team members must be registered by Wednesday, November 27.  No team members may sign up on race day, and no teams may be formed on race day. registration is not available for teams.
  • Awards will be presented to the two top men’s teams and two top women’s teams at the awards ceremony.



  • Overall Male and Female winners and Master’s Male and Female winners will receive a pair of Brooks Running Shoes from The Running Shop.
  • “Turkeys” to the top finisher and pies to the runner-up in each age group. Awards for top men’s and women’s teams (see below).
  • Age Groups: 10 and under, 11-13, 14-16, 17-19, 20-24, 5 year divisions through age 79, and 80 and over.

Fun Run/Walk

  • Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a finisher’s ribbon.

Break the course record and win money!

  • Courtesy of Craig Dabler Jewelers, $50 is donated each year for men and for women.
  • If the record isn’t broken, the prize money rolls over to the next year.
  • Women’s course record of 17:08.2, set in 2011, is held by Tara Erdmann.  Men’s course record of 14:54.1, set in 2009, is held by Craig Curley.


The race benefits Toys for Tots.  Please consider making a donation of a new, unwrapped toy on race day.  Let’s fill up those donation boxes!
